A breast reduction surgical procedure is also known as mammoplasty where by the breast tissue will be reduced, but can also include a breast lift or reshape.

As for most breast surgeries, the procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. On average the surgery takes up between the 3 and 4 hours, in which the surgeon makes an incision that you can compare with a keyhole pattern. The aerola will be circled plus two incisions down the breast which will be closed in one line after excessive breast tissue and body fat has been removed. Accordingly, the surgeon will reposition the nipple and areola to a higher position to give the breast a more natural profile and all excess skin from beneath the breast will be removed. Women who have done a breast reduction will have scars around the areola and in the crease under the breast.
